Song lyric inspiration from Jenny Holzer's Truisms

Jenny Holzer's “Truisms” - (provocative statements posted in public places) - make great song-lyric inspiration. They're listed, below:

I love how they are designed to get a reaction, whether “that's so true!” or “that's so wrong!”

Lyric-writing could use more of that.

All of these © Jenny Holzer (not me!)

Wow. Some serious things to think about and some light things to ponder.

A great tool to inspire lyric. There were a few things I agree with totally, and a few things I disagree with completely. Great stuff.

    Don't forget :

Unlike genius, stupidity has no limitations (unknown)

    also, remember

Anyone who thinks they can't change the world just needs to raise their aim.

Really good tool. Inspiration on demand, yeah?

And if you run out, take the inverse. Whether for satirical purposes or in seriousness.

    Thanks for this, Derek.

Awesome list. There are several gems in there.

Another great source for inspiration (sometimes for lyrics, but mostly for the creative process) is Oblique Strategies, the brainchild of Brian Eno and a few others. I open the widget every time I'm stuck!

In august of last year I found myself at the Chicago Art Institute in front of Jenny Holzer's Blue Tilt.

If you think these phrases are powerful, imagine trying to read them on a blue LED ticker in a darkened room. I sat there for 20 minutes, scribbling frantically in my notebook - I did indeed feel like I was reading song lyrics.

Thanks you for posting this, D.
