Touch as many of their senses as you can
2007-08-18
The more senses you touch in someone, the more they'll remember you.
BEST: a live show, with you sweating right on top of someone, the PA system pounding their chest, the smell of the smoky club, the flashing lights and live-in-person performance.
WORST: an email. a single web page. a review in a magazine with no photo.
(Let's say that “emotions” are one of the senses.)
Whenever possible, try to reach as many senses as possible. Have an amazing photo of yourself or your band, and convince every reviewer to put that photo next to the review of your album.
Send videos with your presskit. Play live shows often. Understand the power of radio to make people hear your music instead of just hearing about it.
Get onto any TV shows you can. Scent your album with patchouli oil. Make your songs and productions truly emotional instead of merely catchy.
(Touching their emotions is like touching their body. If you do it, you'll be remembered.)

beautiful not only by the the blog author but i also loved the words "harrison" and most beautiful sentence is (Touching their emotions is like touching their body. If you do it, you'll be remembered.).
i have got some very useful techniques to promote my band. but one the thing i must say i agree with u jennifer this line really travels a great msg... the more deep ur expression is, the more u touch the emotions the more ppl remember u.
emotions are considered as 6th sense the more strongly u hit the 6th sense the more it effects other 5 senses.
Great touching qoute "touching your emotion is like touching their body" it is great saying by the way.. very awesome post.
i truly i admire your thoughts this post was very simple but with a very deep thought. next week i have got a presentation and i was sort of nervous about how to make them feel good and able to find some very beneficial way though ur post
Nice way to promote and to travel the message but don’t you think using such techniques or teaching such things are to some extent wrong? Using basic instinct to promote own things like music is sorta wrong morally I personally dun appreciate it.
No - it's just a reminder that if you want people to get really engaged with you, you have to engage their senses. That's all. Nothing immoral about that factual reminder. -- Derek
@Derek
may be you are but don't u think in present scenario basic instict, human reflexes are being used for commercial purpose just to gain a gud result for their business.
Derek...I think this is great advice. And it's also something that's brought up in song writing books. An argument calling this immoral is like saying it's immoral to make good tasting food. Music is supposed to be enjoyed and to touch people. It's not supposed to be bland. So if you give people enjoyable memories through music then the fact that they remember you is a good thing. Nothing devious about it. It's a win win situation for everybody.
right, right, right. I agree with Leif Nar, too. For me there is nothing like the real thing. Here we are writing about it online, but this, too, has become another outlet for emotions...still, is it enough if this is all we get? No! We must See it, Touch it, Feel it, Taste it, Smell it, LIVE IT! The Sensation, Frustration, Satisfaction, all of it, to FEEL ALIVE! Books can take us there, music can transport us....Yes, Yes, Yes!
