I worked with Planetary on my last release, and I have to say they ROCK. As an indie singer/songwriter, I was concerned that I would be a tough sell for radio promotions, but they helped me to manage both my radio campaign and my expectations. They are worth every penny and then some, because they got me massive amounts of radio play on AAA stations, which pushed me to tour markets I might have otherwise neglected. I will be approaching them again for with new release in a few months, and I highly recommend them to all my friends. Thanks again, Derek, for highlighting the good guys!

My band considered using a promoter like this, we contacted a couple, but they both came across really shady. The one we almost went with turned out to be fraudulent, which luckily we discovered before we started shoveling money at them. Is there a list of effective and trustworthy promoters out there? If not, Derek, I've got a job for you!

(We ended up using musicsubmit.com, which really worked for us for our budget - and seriously, we did get a lot of radio play and reviews through their service, but know that it's not for everyone...)

What's wrong with a handwritten note that accompanies a CD?

Good insight! Could be very helpful to know there are ways of marketing at all levels. It's a grind & best to prepare with the right attitude. But frankly, all businesses are tough and the hardest workers always have the best shot.
