Inspiration is a good start, but it's the diligence to make every note and every word perfect, that will really set you apart.

Creating a blog is a good start, but it's the proof reading before posting that will really set you apart.
;D
I have this song that I am working on. I am already recording it. There is this one line of lyric though that just bugs me. I know it could be stronger. Yet the words that I need to make that line stronger continues to elude me. Luckily, Since I can record at home now, I know that I can keep working on the recording process while I try to make that one line of lyric stronger. It's a simple matter now of just re-recording that line, and then dropping it in. Before I wouldn't have dared gone into the studio without having everything completely down.
Totally, especially with spirit and meaning. I will always choose feel over perfection when i have two takes to choose between. On the flip side of the same argument, I am often guilty of paralysis by analysis where I over think a piece of music and forget the bigger picture. Sometimes you have to take a sit back and remember what it was that made you excited about the piece. It's a fine balancing act.
James : thanks for catching that, and giving me the best laugh of the night with wonderful irony.
do not see the typo...oh well inside joke I guess.
I always keep a copy of Eno's "oblique strategies" in my studio, and one of my favorites is "destroy the most important thing". If you can't get past the part that's driving you nuts trying to get perfect, kill it. Make it something else. don't be afraid.
Oh, Inspiration! Inspire us to have more Inspiration & Aspiration...
Because; Our Realization lies
WITHIN Aspiration...
...Like The Answer lies inside the Question...
We allready have The Buddha Nature.
Otherwise we couldn´t BE it.
We just have to REALIZE it.
The more serious you are, your true Happiness increases.
Test it.
See if it is true.
Raindrops are washing my windows!
This is why home recording - even on a cheap program for a low quality demo - is so important. Unless you have a massive budget, that kind of fine tuning has to happen on your own time. Then things can be ready when it comes time to record the real version.
Declan - "paralysis by analysis" - wow, I can certainly relate to that..
Whose perfection Derek? Seems mighty subjective to me.. How does one objectively ascertain what constitutes "perfect"?
Ben said, "Then things can be ready when it comes time to record the real version." - seems to me that the real version is the one you puke out of your soul on to a recording device before your ego and intellect have had a chance to dissect it to death..
I'm glad that I was able to give you a laugh... :D
@Aaron Brown
The initial typo has been corrected, but I think it read "Inspiration is good start..."
