Accelerate change
2009-03-07
I want to accelerate change. ALL change, even “bad”.
I put “bad” in quotes, because that's what others call it, though I don't believe you can call a fact bad or good.
Why do I want even “bad” change? Because it's a challenge. And I'm one confident mofo. I can handle ANYthing the world throws my way. So bring it on!
Accelerating change is a time machine. Let's get the future here faster. Change is good training.
There's opportunity in everything. If it's something that most people see as a “bad” change, then discovering its benefit is even more fun.
Cut off my legs, and I'll still find a way to run.

Dig it!
I'm finding that "life" is synonymous with "change", because it's all in a constant state of flux; waiting for our beckoned call to direct the forces around and within us in the direction we so desire.
Problem is, there's been a lot of forces that want to squash, own/control, and limit change. A couple examples: the auto industry, and mass media. One continues to use outdated, inefficient technologies, while the other is always pushing the envelope, embracing new and different ways to imprint on our minds the "need" to buy this, or buy that, or to look this way, or that.
Regardless, with the massive movement of greater awareness and personal accountability, the internet and unparalleled social communication, accelerated change is afoot!
Good times.
Without change, there can be no growth;-) It's all good babies!
Hi Derek!
Here is a quote by Abraham / Hicks that I had pinned to my kitchen wall as a daily reminder.
Here it is:
-------------------------------
Make more decisions every day. Because a decision is a summoning of life. That's why a little chaos is good for you, because often you don't make a decision until you get yourself in a jam. And then, in the middle of the jam, you make a decision, but that decision summons Life Force. Have you ever been to a place where you couldn't quite make up your mind and just felt sort of limp? "Oh, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know." And then you decided and felt alive again. We want you to know that you'll never get it done. So don't approach this from, "I gotta get on this" because you're not ever going to get it done, anyway. And the other thing we want you to know is, you cannot get it wrong. So make a decision. Let it flow. --------------------
Diggin´ what ya talkin´!
Bruce Mau, a Canadian designer, lists this on his "Incomplete Manifesto for Growth":Make mistakes faster.
It's an invitation to be bold, creative, and take risks. Thought of this when I read your blog. Check out the rest of the manifesto at: http://www.brucemaudesign.com/incomplete_manifesto.html
It's full of gems!
You can't change change..
The only permanence is impermanence.
Change is the only constant.
I think of the famous quote by Thomas Edison (perhaps apocryphal) when he had failed to come up with a working filament for his new light bulb after trying literally thousands of materials: "Failed? I haven't failed. I now know 1,600 things that don't work."
I once read a book on business that said - if you have a 10% success rate, would you prefer the employee who has 10 ideas in one year and gets 1 good idea or product; or the guy with 100 ideas, and 10 good products in the same year.
Oh my gosh Derek, I LOVE this!!! You just changed my life! As one who has always been resistant to (ok, scared of) change, your 'spin' on it is hope-inspiring and confidence-giving. Of course I've heard different versions of this before, but none of them had the impact that your 5 or 6 sentences had for me. My God, you are changing the world my friend.
THANK YOU!!!!
